Jon Van Loo Transactional Tax Lawyer with a broad range of experience, focusing on the tax aspects of initial coin offerings (ICOs), cryptocurrency transactions, blockchain companies, M&A, international tax and investment funds. Jon has practiced tax law for 10 years in a variety of firms and cities, including: Linklaters’ London office, a tax boutique in San Francisco, and Dechert’s New York office. In 2017, Jon launched his own solo tax practice based in Menlo Park and earlier this year, he co-founded Belcher, Smolen & Van Loo, a boutique law firm based in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Jon’s cryptocurrency tax experience includes advising various cryptocurrency hedge funds (including CoinFund) on a variety of domestic and international tax issues, advising companies on the tax aspects of ICOs, advising individuals on the tax aspects of cryptocurrency transactions, and advising on the tax aspects of M&A transaction in the crypto space.

Dmitri Alexeev Director BPM Corporate Tax Practice. He has over 18 years of public accounting experience with regional and national accounting firms. He’s worked with many public and private companies, including closely held businesses and startup companies, ranging in size from $1 million to over $100 billion in assets. He has extensive experience serving clients in financial services, life sciences, mobile gaming, services and technology industries. Dmitri has extensive tax advisory and compliance experience with emphasis on financial and regulatory reporting, including corporate and partnership taxation, accounting methods and elections and state taxation. He also has broad experience in ASC 740, income taxes, and significant experience with federal and California tax controversy. With focus on exceptional client service, he has worked closely with attorneys, investment bankers, valuation, as well as other professionals. Dmitri enjoys hiking and fishing. He enjoys exploring the hiking trails of the American West, the South West, and the Canadian Rockies.

Navin Sethi Tax Partner Ernst & Young Financial Services Office (FSO) Tax Practice in San Francisco. Navin specializes in providing tax consulting and compliance services to clients in the asset management industry. Navin’s clients include hedge funds, venture capital, fund of funds, private equity and real estate funds. Navin has more than 20 years of work experience in both the public and private industry. Navin is a frequent speaker at alternative investment conferences. Navin co-created a graduate course on the taxation of financial products in 2006 which he still teaches as an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University. Navin graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in accounting (BBA) and a law degree (JD). Navin later received a master’s in tax law (LLM) from Golden Gate University. Since 2005, Navin has been a board member of the Alameda County Library Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting our public libraries.
