Salman Khan Reinventing Education #TIECon

Salman Khan gave a great talk @2011 TIE Conference, he is really inspirational & a great & entertaining speaker.  I thoroughly enjoyed his talk & was inspired by his story & enthusiasm to reinvent education through his videos & software.  Salman is the founder & faculty of the Khan Academy a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing a free world class education to anyone, anywhere.  It now consists of self paced software & with over 1m unique students per month, the most used educational video repository on the Internet (over 30m lessons delivered to date).  All 2000+ video tutorials, covering everything from basic addition to advanced calculus, physics, chemistry & biology have been made by Salman.  Prior to Khan Academy, Salman was a senior analyst at a hedge fund & had also worked in technology & venture capital.  He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MEng & BS in electrical engineering & computer science from MIT & BS in mathematics from MIT.  You can find Sal on Twitter @khanacademy

Drew Houston Dropbox #TIECon

Drew Houston was a Keynote speaker @TIE Conference 2011 Drew is the Founder & CEO of Dropbox. Drew graduated from MIT and wrote the first lines of code for Dropbox while at a train station in Boston. These days he’s usually out and about running Dropbox’s business affairs, but he still contributes a lot to Dropbox’s client software. Video interview with Joyce Chung, Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures.   Joyce Chung has over 10 years of operating experience in technology companies and 10 years of venture capital investing experience. She was a founding partner of Cardinal Venture Capital, a $125 million early stage venture fund. At Cardinal, Joyce was responsible for investments in Chipcon (acquired by Texas Instruments), Mobilygen, Valista, and Zilliant. She continues to co-manage the current Cardinal portfolio. Prior to forming Cardinal Venture Capital, Joyce managed venture investments for Adobe Ventures. Her portfolio companies included Vignette (Nasdaq: VIGN), DigitalThink, Digimarc (Nasdaq: DMRC), and Virage. Joyce also held operating roles at Adobe Systems, Sony Corporation, and Cambridge Technology Group. She received an S.B. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Joyce is active at the Stanford Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and is on the board of the Association of MIT Alumnae (AMITA), Chair of the Northern California chapter of AMITA and Member of the Executive Council of Astia.
