Predator or Prey?

M&A language makes use of the words โ€œpredatorsโ€ and โ€œprey.โ€ These terms may have some nasty connotations for you, but letโ€™s agree for our purposes that there is a mutual choice involved and a positive outcome for both parties.  Instead of something dark and dangerous, a predator is someone with the financial and operational strength to purchase a business.  And prey is a business that actively seeks a buyer.

Many, many companies have become prey as a result of the current reshaping of the global economy.  But even in a healthy economy, the day will come when we become willing prey.  How do we become smart prey โ€“ able to reap the highest dollar final rewards of our efforts?

Online Revenue Business Models

There have been a few conversations on the net this past week about advertising and ad blocking.  Many people have been complaining that ad blocking is hurting good sites who depend on advertising revenue.  Ars Technica posted an article ‘Why Ad Blocking is devastating to the sites you love’.  They thought that people were using ad block with malice but the results of a 12hour experiment they ran, where content disappeared for visitors using ad blocking software.  The results were interesting:
